5 Quick Fixes to Make Your DIY Brand Feel More Consistent
If you’ve ever looked at your social feed or website and thought, “Why does this feel so… off?” you’re in good company. Consistency is one of the most overlooked (and frustrating) parts of building a strong brand, especially when you’ve DIY-ed it all yourself.
Ready for the good news? You don’t need a complete overhaul to get your visuals feeling polished and professional. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.
Here are 5 quick fixes to help your DIY brand feel instantly more cohesive and consistent.
1. Choose 3–5 Brand Colours and Stick to Them
Pick a palette and stick to it like glue. Whether it’s warm neutrals or bold brights, you want to use your colours everywhere - Instagram posts, website buttons, newsletter headers, you name it. Mixing it up every time might feel creative, but it’s confusing for your audience and is stopping you from becoming instantly recognisable and bookable. Show up with the same colours, in different combos, and you’ll be unforgettable.
2. No more brand New Fonts Just Because You’re Feeling new Feelings
We’ve all been there: you’re writing a vulnerable post and suddenly feel the urge to use a swirly, handwritten font because it fits ‘the vibe’. Resist that urge. The strength of an unforgettable brand comes from repetition, not reinvention. Stick with your chosen brand fonts even when the vibe is emotional. That’s how people start to associate that font with your voice.
3. Stop Using Random ass Canva Graphics
Just because I’m a pro designer with an expensive af Adobe subscription doesn’t mean I don’t love Canva. But pulling a new selection of irrelevant graphics every time you post? Not helping your consistency cause. Instead, create a few go-to branded assets that align with your colour palette, fonts and overall brand vibe. Use them again and again. It saves you time and builds brand recognition. Win-win.
4. Match Your Website to Your Socials
Your website is your brand’s online home and it needs to actually look like it belongs to the same business that’s showing up in the scroll. If your Instagram is playful and pink but your website is corporate and grey because you never got round to update it when you last rebranded? That’s a problem. That’s a real, real problem. Your brand should feel like one cohesive universe, not two competing personalities. Stop giving your audience whiplash!
5. Get Consistent with your Font Sizes
If your posts always look weird but you can’t ever figure out why, it’s probably something to do with your font sizes. Set a standard heading size and a body copy size and use them in every post. It brings structure, clarity, and polish to even the simplest designs. No more wonky layouts, no more second-guessing.
